How do I change my attitude about eating healthy?

There is so much information out there about HOW to eat a healthy, whole food diet. There is so much inspiration and motivation out there but still you find yourself reaching for the convenience and “junk” foods. Why? Is it lack of discipline? What role does discipline play? Intuitive eating is a way to connect naturally with what your body wants. No foods are off limits and yes, you may have a few binges on unhealthy foods AT FIRST, when you start changing your attitude about food. When you make all foods OK, when you stop making food “bad” and stop the shame and restrictive attitude about your food a shift will eventually take place. Your choices will change. When it isn’t off limits you can always have it later, and there is not as much of a reason to binge… It will always be there for you! Discipline has it’s place, but really, you need to have this piece in place first, then discipline will feel good! This works only if this one piece is in place though: Love yourself and accept your body as it is. Love your body with a strong affection, appreciate your body’s service to you. It does so much, it is the vessel for your life and soul. When this part of you is in place, you want to treat your body like a temple, feed yourself whole and healthy foods that nourish you. It’s all about shifting the negative judgments you hold over your body into self-acceptance and self-love. Once you are able to crack through those feelings of self-loathing and shame, you will WANT to feed yourself food that nourishes you! Releasing weight and normalizing your body size is a natural progression. On the other side of “dieting” lies freedom. Sometimes dieting is a comfort zone and the idea of letting up on the rules is daunting. Once you let up on all of your food “rules” (barring allergies and other necessities) you have the opportunity to find your OWN natural guidelines. I understand that it is scary and may even feel like “giving up” on yourself, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s a simple reframe. Even if you’ve learned how to appreciate your spiritual inner spark, there is your outer expression to consider. If you walk around with loathing for your tummy, or thighs, and hide behind a scowl or a baggy shirt, what you are doing is chipping away at the very threads of your being. You are hiding your spirit, and that is depriving the world. You are a movement, you can change anything in this world by shifting your attitude inside. It’s not only about positive affirmations, it is about courage, the courage to expose yourself. Total transparency, there is comfort in that.   In addition to the inner work, I am listing 7 important ways to love on your body. 1~Proper Nourishment~ One of the best ways we can love our body is to take care of it by giving it the proper nourishment. Giving the body REAL food, and staying away from processed crap with ingredient lists so long and unpronounceable that we don’t even know what we’re eating. The standard american diet is filled with “healthy” foods that come in pretty packages, and we are so cut off from the source of our food that our children think meat comes from the supermarket and not from a once living thing, and vegetables are taken from cans or from that cold aisle in the grocery store. Know what you are eating, appreciate it’s source and prepare your food with love, care and reverence....

What to do when you feel “ugly”

Is caring about your beauty superficial? and what can you do when you just feel “ugly?”   You know what I mean. Some days you just feel off your game, bad hair days, clothes don’t fit. It’s hard to pin an exact reason but you just feel plain ugly! I have one question: How can you be a positive force for change and touch lives if you’re all caught up in feeling “ugly” and not able to walk upright and confident? I know when I have felt this way and expressed it out loud I have been told everything from “It’s the inner that matters, it doesn’t matter how you are on the outside.” to “you are not ugly, that is silly!” or, “You are not ugly, you are beautiful!” The latter being the nicer thing. Each statement has one thing in common. They all gloss over your very real “ugly” & “fugly” feelings, not being at the top of your game. It is intended kindness in most cases, and among many different sects of spirituality it really is seen as being “superficial” to be concerned about such things and even looked down on for caring. It’s the inner part of you that matters, right? Let’s look at what “superficial” means at it’s core. Let’s no longer demonize it! Superficial= on the surface. It’s only part of the equation. How to shift your mood through dance.

      Sometimes the only way to shift your mood is to sink into it, accept that is where you are and express it. When there is a song stuck in your head, sometimes the only way to remove it is to listen to it all of the way through. It is this way with a mood as well. If you’re sad and try to push it away, it will lodge into your being in one way or another. Sometimes it will morph into anger, sometimes you will feel giddiness, but if there is an underlying sadness, the laughter will be fleeting and the sad feelings will grow larger, and they may contribute to self abuse such as overeating to stuff your feelings, self criticism, starting arguments and creating discord in your relationships.   I found a powerful way to feel and work through my troubling moods in a way that empowers rather than sinking down into fear and running away.
